Say Bye-Bye to National Park Sites...unless
At first, seasonal NPS (majority of staff) were told they were exempted from the hiring freeze but none had been hired, FLETC was canceled, tourist season is about to start, the new Secretary of DOI is "reclaiming" monuments for energy,
and thousands of current NPS (and other land management) staff are being fired by the day.
More senators are contacting the Secretary of Interior to save NPS. The Executive Order "Implementing DOGE" only included law enforcement. Parks will still be partially closed as LE rangers will be spread thin trying to protect the parks while tending to visitors and facilities. News articles claim they will allow only 5,000 of the 7,500 seasonals originally needed, current candidates will be canceled, and chaos will ensue without the seasoned staff. All NPS staff need to be reinstated.
